About Us
Sandra Hyde is a native Texan, born in Tyler, and proudly attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She began her career in Midland, Texas in 1963 and later worked in Dallas and Atlanta, where she was a partner in two design firms.
After raising two sons, Sandra re-entered the world of design in Dallas, where she has lived since 1976. For a time, her interests centered on apparel, and she designed and manufactured a line of Western Wear which included dusters, skirts, boots, and her signature fringed collar-vest.
One Christmas, Sandra decided to make use of some workroom cuttings of leather, cowhide, and exotic skins to decorate wooden trays and boxes, which she had designed for gifts of appreciation for valued customers and friends. The clients who received them were delighted and urged Sandra to create a wholesale line of similar items they could retail in catalogs, stores, and boutiques. The result was a move back to her roots, from the Apparel Mart to the World Trade Center, and the S. Hyde Collection was reborn.
Sandra's collection reflects her lifelong love of the American West coupled with her expertise in working with leather and cowhide. The collection is based on her original designs, but also includes selected antiques, an interest derived from years of "antiquing" and attending auctions.
More often in the workroom in an old smock than in her office, Sandra is a hands-on designer. Sandra's personal integrity, her pursuit of excellence in each handcrafted piece, and her presence in the workroom ensure the consistent quality of the S. HYDE COLLECTION.
